I recently posted up "Higher Ground" from Vermont duo argonaut&wasp, and I'm very excited to premiere their new single, "Stranger Lover (When You Came Into My Life)" here today.
Deep grooves and real curves -- this is sexy as hell. One for the bedroom playlist, one for the dirty-martinis-on-a-rooftop playlist.
Opening with a vaguely jungle beat, each smooth layer slivers into place. Piece by piece, something funky and voluptuous takes shape. A deep, syncopated bass rounds out the soundscape, while keys and guitars intertwine up ahead.
A good minute in, guest vocalist Guthrie Galileo's melody takes center stage. Dripping with sensuality and subtle confidence, vocal harmonies and counter-melodies playfully dance around the instrumental layers.
The scintillating groove takes you through the next few minutes, reaching a whole new level with a guitar solo straight out of the late 70s.
If Mark Ronson is uptown funk, I hereby declare this downtown funk. argonaut&wasp's debut EP, Future Protocol, comes out on February 20. Pre-order it here.
