I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for nostalgia. I'm instantly interested in anything that even hints at my childhood. So when I was browsing through music and saw cover art featuring a Super Nintendo controller, I had to listen to it. And I'm so thankful I did.
The artist responsible for said cover art is Pittsburgh's Arcade High, and he is busy making electronic tunes to transport you back to simpler times. Times when you're biggest responsibility was how you were going to get past that part of Mega Man 3, times when John Cusack still made good movies.
His song "One Year Ago" off of
Pixel Passion is an 80s nostalgia jam filled with synthesizers and 16-bit instruments falling effortlessly over electronic drums and grooving bass. If that isn't enough, the awesome voice sample written and performed by Hannah Edwards will definitely do you in. Arcade High says it best: "Songs that conjure images of letterman jackets, arcade lights, fast cars, and warm summer nights." I couldn't agree more.
You can also find "One Year Ago" featured on the newest
mixtape from Futurecop!, plus some other 80s synth wave goodies.
So go bust out your favorite vintage video game, put on your hyper color shirt, and forget all about this crazy new world we live in today while you jam out to Arcade High.
