Aquilo is back. The Lake District duo has generated a lot of buzz with a brace of excellent EPs released over the past year. Their dreamy and atmospheric sound has led to them being likened to fellow Lancastrians Wild Beasts, but these boys are beyond such lazy comparisons.
As evidenced on their new track “Better Off Without You,” Aquilo has honed their own brand of downtempo electronica, bringing in soulful elements of R&B for good measure. As you might expect from this band, it’s a stunning track. It’s full to the brim with lush instrumentation and melancholic lyrics, as likely to leave you recalling past heartbreaks as it is to leave you dumbstruck with some kind of otherworldly ecstasy.
Journalistic hyperbole aside, this is a beautiful track and the prospect of Aquilo’s third EP, Calling Me (which is out May 31 via the B3SCI label), is a very exciting one indeed.
