It's always interesting when artists remix themselves. I can't help but wonder if it means the artist was unhappy with the original release, or whether they simply wanted to show off another side to the story.
Today we're premiering Apothek's own remix of their debut track "Family."I cannot imagine that they were unhappy with the original (simply because it's incredible). More so, it showcases the track and its magentism through a new, different and wildly varied lens.
The remix toys with moving rhythms and rolling percussion, with deeper bass and an atmosphere that is more graceful in some places, fleshier in others, and more playful overall. The vocals on this track are outstanding. The melody itself is tonally sublime, with gorgeous harmonies, and the kind of flexibility that follows the music between its sparsity and abundance.
Considering this is still technically part of Apothek's debut release, I am really, really excited for what 2016 will have in store.
