Ballarat four-piece Apes is back with new single "Strange Taste," and let me tell you, this is something really amazing.
This is exactly the kind of track that I love: gorgeous, husky vocals, heavy-hitting rock beats, and a soundscape that balances a huge sound with carefully placed sparsity.
The track opens with an airy melody and an intermittent guitar riff, punching its way right into your ears. The track builds with distorted grunge guitars and a solid beat. The chorus comes in and it's nothing short of explosive; an angsty grunge sound through and through, it complements the verses perfectly.
The vocals traipse between a heavenly lilt and a hard rock belt, and the track is rounded off with a blistering guitar solo -- one that I imagine will absolutely wail in the live setting.
Considering that these guys have already opened for the likes of Royal Blood, Manchester Orchestra, and Band of Skulls, I have no doubt that they're on a steady rise to the very top.
