If you've been a fan of underground West Coast hip-hop for the last 14 years, you've no doubt heard of Amp Live. Usually that named would be followed by "of Zion I," but in the last several years Amp has been carving a niche all of his own, sans Zumbi.
Amp is an underground legend to many, one of a select few producers who embraced the live show and incorporated performative elements in his performances. That tint of innovation in his work is what has held him to pursue the less publicized arenas of music making, TV shows, and scoring. Zion I always had an electronic edge to their production, and with the recent EDM wave, Amp Live has experience.
Aiming for a bigger, eclectic sound, Amp Live teamed up with Plug Research for 2013's Kaleidoscope Theory EP in preparation for a full length this year. The first taste of that is "Closer To The Sun," a festival-ready banger that incorporates elements of hip-hop, electro and indie.
