Amateur Dance is 20-year-old Melbournite Joseph Cookson, and "Room For Improvement" is his most recent single.
This track doesn't rely on a build-up, it doesn't rely on break-downs, it doesn't rely on big beats. It's repetitive, really repetitive, particularly with the melodic loops and the beats, but in a way that's hypnotic, not boring. Roving synth movements and crystalline chords fill the atmosphere, imploding into a brief moment of fuzzy psychosis around the three-minute mark.
What I like most about this track is not necessarily the rhythm nor the beats, but the sounds themselves. The bubbly tones are captivating and catchy, introverted and relentlessly driving.
An interesting track from an interesting EP, Talking About Yourself, out now on October Records.
