It's been three years since Alvvays dropped their debut album, which means it's been three years of "Archie, Marry Me" putting the cold, broken pieces of my heart back together with the promise that love is real and stinkin' adorable.
Now, here they are with "In Undertow," and turns out love is dead. A dozen times or so the songs reminds us "there's no turning back," and, like, fine, I'll stop fixating on all those good times with Archie and say hello to this sadder Alvvays. As long as they keep hitting me with these songs that are as sweet as they are somber and candid, it's sure to be an easy transition.
