Alison Wonderland has become a household name in the Australian club scene, becoming one of the most sought-after DJs in the country over the past couple of years. Aside from becoming a regular on the local festival circuit, she's even had a bunch of success overseas, most recently appearing at this year's SXSW in Austin. But, unbeknownst to most, the classically trained producer has been busy working on her own material of her own, with her first single "Get Ready" just released.
This track surprised me a lot -- I definitely wasn't ready for it (get it?). I'm too old to keep up with a lot of the dance/party tracks coming out, so Alison Wonderland isn't a regular listen for me. While I'm not surprised at the slickness of the production (she does a good job singing the chorus), I was a caught off-guard by the style of the track. Heavy drops, powerful beats and a touch of dubstep (not enough to make me throw-up) are a new direction for an artist more known for her pop savvy remixes.
What surprised me even more was the rapping of Sydney production duo Fishing, who is normally known for quirky beatmaking. I still can't believe it's them.
I almost feel as if this review hasn't explained that I actually enjoy this track, and quite a bit at that. I'll be ready next time though, definitely.
