Albert Hammond Jr.’s new album Francis Trouble was inspired by the singer/guitarist finding an alter ego in the spirit of his twin brother Francis, who his mother miscarried in the womb while Hammond Jr. continued to grow. One might think this premise sets you up for a sombre listening experience, but Francis Trouble is anything but.
The latest release, “Far Away Truths,” is downright upbeat and happy. Hammond Jr. employs his signature brightly urgent guitar sound over top of a Springsteen-meets-indie pop vocal. The song will undoubtedly attract fans of The Strokes, but Hammond Jr. has applied just enough of his own updated artistic sense to make the track stand out as uniquely his.
Let this melodic new single inspire your best dance moves without pining for Julian Casablanca’s early-'00s slacker howls.
Another unique solo effort from Hammond Jr, Francis Trouble is out now on Red Bull and is definitely worth a place on your summer playlists.
