Why do we like this?

Alabama 3, the infamous self-proclaimed "acid house country music" heroes from Brixton, released a new single titled "Freedom (Burn Like The 4th of July)" coupled with its B-side "Freezing (We Need Some Global Warming)" in late December 2018.

"Freedom" begins with a melodic slide guitar solo that just oozes a sense of futility, soon accompanied by Martin Luther King Jr.’s eternal "I Have a Dream Speech" which summons an atmosphere of defiance and revolution. This juxtaposition of moods is shortly met by a booming saxophone solo that adds a layer of reflection as the song picks up its rhythm.

Clearly written and produced with a sharp political edge the chorus echoes "Tell me where the freedom is, and I’ll burn like the 4th of July. Tell me where the freedom, is because I can't feel it." With various speech samples sewn into the song the band manage to add their signature acid house twist to a typically blues song through a clever use of multiple synthesizers in order to convey their clear social message regarding freedom in society.

If you’re looking for something different to start the new year I would suggest getting into Alabama 3 and the single "Freedom" is a good place to start.
