SXSW brings out the best [music] in people. The start of the festival encourages showcasing bands to unleash a flurry of new music over the Internet. Everyone’s ears are ready and buzzing, desperately trying to find the next big sound.
Beantown-based Air Traffic Controller has perfectly timed their SXSW appearance with the launch of their third album, Black Box. Can we talk about how their name and album title tie together? It's perfect.
ATC’s Dave Munro was an air traffic controller during his time serving in the U.S. Navy, which is, of course, where the duo snagged their name. After his deployment, he developed a friendship with Casey Sullivan, a fellow singer-songwriter, and the rest is gold.
Air Traffic Controller has previously been recognized for their indie folk rock on The Hype Machine, NPR, MTVU, and our very own Indie Shuffle. This Thursday, March 17, Munro and Sullivan will play a ridiculously short and sweet set at Maggie Mae’s for SXSW.
There’s a good chance you’ll hear the hum-worthy “Warrior,” and immediately fall in love with their soft, pensive rock, and the rest of the songs on Black Box. Enjoy.
