Denitia Odigie from duo Denitia and Sene has started a new solo project under the name Adesuwa, which she has kicked off with the release of debut EP Air Light.
The New York soulstress, songwriter, and producer manages to anchor a hybrid of 80’s style, electronic, and soul genres to create a wonderful first look into what she is about as a solo artist.
The EP takes you on a journey of unbridled love, desire, spirituality, and sunsets, with "One Only" probably being my stand-out favorite. Denitia's slightly raspy, soulful vocals embrace you as you get sucked into intricate melodies created by the 80's synths, flute trills, and a gloriously cheesy drum machine -- which somehow doesn't sound cringeworthy. Perfect!
Like many a bedroom producer, you can tell that Adesuwa's music is coming from a real, raw place (well, her bedroom, nothing more real that that!).
