One of the defining artists of the "bedroom pop" wave, solo artist Absofacto's new EP,Lemon Drop,is bubbling with soothing sounds and catchy melodies. I had the chance to see and meet him after his opening slot for SHAED, and in addition to being a talented performer, he's a super nice guy.
Back to the music. If I could describe this song in one word it would be... luscious. It's got a tropical vibe to it, and even though I can't always understand the words, it's provocative and catchy. The layering in the melody produces a really wet, full sound. The space created between the crisp, percussive claps and the lead synths is very refreshing.
In a genre that is quickly becoming over-saturated, Absofacto is able to set himself apart with unique and well-produced tracks. His music remains fun and dance-able, while a lot of the bedroom pop is becoming stale and repetitive.
