Melbourne-based electronic duo Deja has performed some pretty insane surgery on Aaliyah's R&B-dance classic "Try Again." Like, wow.
Almost unrecognizable at first, the track slowly builds a slick rhythm. One by one, each layer enters and atmosphere starts to form. A brief moment of silence makes all the difference before the melody explodes.
Once those vocals come in, there's no mistaking it. It's Aaliyah's track, alright. But it's received one hell of an electric shock. Doused in glitchy synths and future beats, I'm so impressed at how it's still managed to maintain the soul and catchiness of the original.
There's a lot going on here. It's a really impressive effort, and it goes so much further than your average cover. It's pretty difficult not to get swept up in the groove of this track, and the airy smoothness of it all really takes it to another level.
