If the name A.K. Paul sounds familiar, it might be because he's the brother of the enigmatic Jai Paul, who set the blogosphere on fire with his debut single “BTSTU” back in 2011. The two have now joined forces to create the Paul Institute, a Tron-like members-only creative cyber center for all things Paul, which has just released A.K.'s solo debut single "Landcruisin," a gas-powered piece of industrial wonderworking.
A.K., who also goes by Anup, had been quietly producing thwacking beats for the likes of Big Boi and Jessie Ware up to this point, but now it seems he’s ready to independently embark on a parallel journey as a futuristic jack of all musical trades.
"Landcruisin'" is a terrific first effort, gracefully pitting undulating space synths against piercing guitar licks to create a sound that truly fires on all cylinders. The most impressive part? It's all him. Notice the fine print on the track’s SoundCloud page: “Written and Produced by Anup Paul. Vocals, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Synthesisers, Percussion and Programming by Anup Paul. Sound Design and Effects by Anup Paul. Engineered, Mixed and Mastered by Anup Paul.”
What we have here is a stroke of uncommonly extraterrestrial sonic genius, something that clearly runs in the family.
