47Soul is a ragtag group of five musicians from the Arab diaspora. Syrian percussionist Rami Nahklee Golan, Jordanian guitarist and rapper El Far3i, Palestinian/American keyboardist and vocalist Z The People, Jordanian producer and musician El Jehaz, and Palestinian vocalist Walaa Sbait have tapped into a sound that bridges cultural traditions from the Middle Eastern world with the political urgency of the now.
With no recorded releases and a handful of live shows under their belt, 47Soul is pioneering a genre that's been described as "the futuristic sound of a Palestinian wedding." The mijwiz is the center-piece of their sonic aesthetic -- it is the heart. It's a reed instrument that plays a key role in some Arabic wedding ceremonies and 47Soul adapts it into a raucous party-starter.
Challenging borders, passports, and visas, the quintet has assembled in London, where they've been dilligently wriitng the music for their debut project. At the time of posting, there are still a few days left on their fundraiser for their debut EP #Shamstep.
