Why do we like this?
Hailing from Ypsilanti, 14KT is one of the best kept secrets in hip-hop. He's had a string of impressive but slept-on releases from 45s to full lengths. His method for making his music is very particular, somewhere on the Internet there's a YouTube of him in an early incarnation of his studio (I hear it's crazy now) where he's laying some kind of crazy overdubs by re-recording parts of a beat he's working on in his in-studio mic. That probably sounds weird, and if you know little about the production process, that probably sounds like ramen noodles in your ear.
The point is, KT has a new album called Nickel & Dimed, now available through Mello Music Group. Mostly instrumental, KT does get some work in with notable MCs like Blu, Kokane (yep), Black Milk, and MED. A gem that is not on the album however, is a song that appears on a bonus 45: "Live From Pimpstead."
If you are wondering where Pimpstead is located, you may need an RLX Polo map to find it. It's the home of an expert wordsmith, a man who could never be described as a hater because he simply doesn't give a fuck enough -- Roc Marciano. For those that expect to know the ins and outs of an artists' personal life through their rhymes, Roc is not for you. Roc does one thing and he does it very well: talk shit. Over a sample used and abused by KT (try and name it if you can), Mr. Marciano stays covered in ostrich, reminds you he's been wearing Timberland boots since the stone age, and keeps his hair silky for a selfie.
With bangers like these hopefully 14KT stops being a secret.
