#1 Dads is the side project of Tom Iansek, frontman for the much-lauded Melbourne duo Big Scary. I actually used to listen to his brilliant debut album Man of Leisure a lot, but it took me a long time to work out that it was actually Iansek and not the larger man on the cover.
With Big Scary's Not Art album such a huge success as well as Iansek's own production career taking off recently, you would expect #1 Dads might take a backseat. But, I was really glad to hear that there's a second album on the way, and a fresh new single to enjoy!
"Return To" is the first taste of the upcoming record, and my goodness, it's a stunner. A smooth blend of live instrumentation and electronics is topped off with the haunting vocals of Lowlakes' Tom Snowdon -- a real slowburner guaranteed to melt plenty of hearts.
The About Face LP is due out on August 8 (via Pieater/Inertia) - definitely one to keep an eye out for.
