Why do we like this?
We've been pretty heavy advocates of Brisbane production duo YesYou since they burst onto the scene two years ago with their debut single "Half Of It." Since then, they've released a number of poppy favorites, and drew plenty of attention (and 80K+ SoundCloud plays) with their unbelievable mashup of Jay-Z, Kylie Minogue, and MGMT on one track (check it out here).
Now, they're back with a fresh new single which features the stunning vocals of fellow Brisbane native Jordan Rakei, whose single "Selfish" was featured on our site a fortnight ago. I was especially interested to see how Rakei's soulful vocals would be utilized by the duo, as their pop-centric production isn't something I'd usually associate with the young singer. It's definitely their dance-iest single to date too, which makes my last point even more prominent, but the combination works seamlessly.
YesYou's previous releases have all been pretty varied (within the pop genre), and this one again continues with that trend. It's got a real mid-90s dance-anthem vibe to it, so it'll be interesting to see if this is something that will be repeated on their upcoming second EP.
