Why do we like this?
I know this is not a new song but there's definitely something pleasantly endearing about Wye Oak's "I Hope You Die" track. Although the name leads you to believe that this could potentially be a dark and depressing ode to a former flame, the beginning progressions prove otherwise. This dreamy and engrossing track on the band's LP titled My Neighbor/My Creator is one that slowly builds and then brings you back down with beauty and despondency.
The combination of brilliant electronics and lovely singing makes the lines "I hope you die" not sound as hateful and egocentric as they should. Don't expect this song to lift your spirits but you can count on it for stylistic intensity and lasting impression.
