Man, I feel like if I was the age I am now, 31, but living in 1967 -- which is when this heater of a track was released -- I'd be so out of my depth, and lame. I probably would have liked the Beach Boys, like everyone else. But, nowadays, for liking this song, I'm cool. And on the timeline continuum where I'm the same age in every year, 2022 suits me better than any other year in the past century, at least. Which I'd say is proven by the fact that I love this song.
In the present moment, Willie Bobo's "Evil Ways" is yet another timeless classic that pulls me closer to the camp of people who promote the idea that "music just isn't as good as it used to be." That's kind of a stupid camp to live in, because the context and sounds of music are always evolving, and it just means that you aren't, if the music doesn't make sense. However, I do find it harder to discover really great new songs these days, amongst the deluge of passably decent releases coming out daily.
Anyways, I tip my hat to the very stale version of myself in the late '60s that couldn't get down to Latin jazz numbers like this one, and then I set off on my self-driving Segway scooter.
