Originally released on a little-known South African album dating back to 1990, V.O.'s "Mashisa (Dub Mix)" has become a surprise contender for most wanted track of the year.
"Mashisa (Dub Mix)" was originally rediscovered by digger-extraordinaires Invisible City Editions, who are also behind this year's reissue. After slowly making it into the sets of Young Marco, Antal and even Jackmaster, the song has become one of 2016's most sought after tracks.
"Mashisa (Dub Mix)" was recorded at a pivotal moment, at the height of South African apartheid when the more playful sounds of bubblegum were being replaced by the harder sounds of Kwaito.
Sadly, Eddie Magwaza, who was just 19 when he recorded the track, was shot and killed shortly after its release. Short but sweet, the track is testament to Magwaza's unique sound and vision.
At the time of writing, Invisible City Editions still had some copies of Mashisa in stock -- be quick though, as they are selling out quickly!
