Why do we like this?

Welcome to The Midnight, a “marriage between a songwriter from the Deep South and a producer from Denmark,” who both now live in Los Angeles.

The songwriter is Tyler Lyle, a Georgia native who has been experimenting with music since the age of 15. The other half of this new equation is the worldly producer and songwriter Tim McEwan.

The Midnight their love child -- an 80’s drenched, synthwave, pop masterpiece.

“Lost & Found” is a former single of Lyle, which is fine on it’s own, sure. But The Midnight’s magic touch really turns this track into something glittering and special. Lyle’s voice is soft and comforting, but becomes really memorable once elevated by synth and lightning cracking at the 1:45 mark. I have a playlist for the dead of night, when the city lights blur and the roads belong to you. This is a song for that dark, silent hour.

The duo also has some irresistible instrumentals worthy of their own review.

Their Facebook page reads: “Japanese term ‘mono no aware’ means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass. This is our attempt to put time under glass.”

I don’t know what that poetry means yet, but if you need to watch time slip away, do it to these sounds.
