Why do we like this?

Here's a lovely little gem I stumbled across on SoundCloud.

I'm surprised by Travis Bretzer's breathy take on slacker pop. "Promises" is laid back and pleasant in its obscure tuning and simple beat. The lyrics and vocals are where the main focus is as far as a love song goes, but those dissonant chords sure do tug at the heart strings, too.
