Why do we like this?
Toddla T is one of the few musicians who's other half is probably better recognised. Annie Mac, his girlfriend, is one of the leading DJ's in the dance world, and based on Toddla's latest track "Take It Back," I have more than a sneaking suspicion that he's about to emulate her.
Despite receiving critical acclaim, his debut album Skanky Skanky has not achieved huge success outside his home city of Sheffield or amongst the UK's Caribbean population. However, his second album Watch Me Dance looks sure to put an end to that. Where his debut was influenced by the Dancehall played at Sheffield parties , his sophomore effort appears to have matured based on his travels around the world. This track for example has a distinctively Balearic sound.
Check out the minimix he put together with another Sheffield DJ, Pipes, for Annie Mac's show and keep this name on your radar!
