Why do we like this?
We left the third mix in our Shuffle Mixes series in the more than capable hands of up-and-coming young Sheffielder Squarehead. He returned to us a short time later with a captivating hour of beautifully mixed house. Listening to the mix, it's amazing to think it comes from someone who has only been djing a couple of years -- both his mixing skills and choice of tracks are flawless, something which is fast becoming a theme in this series!
Although he has only a few releases to his name, Squarehead manages to sound like a seasoned veteran. His remixes and own productions also have a really interesting inventive, professional feel, marking him out as much more than yet another bedroom house-head.
As well as his own music, Squarehead is a quarter of Sheffield's Standard Procedure crew, who regularly host live video sessions of themselves -- and special guests -- DJing live, almost like a northern answer to the Boiler Room. With all this and support coming from the likes of Rinse FM, it's fair to say Squarehead could well be the next big electronic artist from a city responsible for everyone to synth-pop legends Human League to current DJ of the moment Toddla T.
