Oh, it has been such a pleasure to stumble upon these folky indie rockers from down under.
Sam Bentley (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Christina Lacy (vocals, guitars, keyboards), David Powys (vocals, guitars, banjo, lap steel), Josh Bentley (drums, percussion), and Sam Rasmussen (bass, synth) formed their gentle collective back in 2010. To date, these creative creatures have released two EPs and two albums. Their most recent, twelvefour, is only a few weeks old.
The album name comes from the hours the album was created. All of the songs were written between midnight and 4 a.m. I love this little fact.
If you listen to the whole album, which I beg you to do, you can hear those witching hours soaked into their songs. Each one feels like a secret. That precious time trapped between the absolute darkest, dreamest point of the day and the sweet stillness of dawn.
"Electric Indigo" is the album's first single, and great entry point into their sound. I am instantly smitten with this band of quiet talent. Their soft noise and midnight lullabies are easy on a rattled heart.
This won't be my last review of their work. Enjoy.
