There is something about Amber Bain's music that strips you bare, lays you out in the most vulnerable way. Not only do the synth-heavy, harmonic-focused vocals multiply her presence in each song, but her unique blend of instrumental and electronic elements add an intimate, emotional depth. I find myself breathing deeper, slower, and becoming more intently aware not only of my own body, but of my emotional state.
"Follow My Girl" struck me this way from the first note, and only continues to unravel me as the lyrics reveal themselves. As she jumps into an upbeat chorus, in contrast to musing "nothing feels good, it's not right," the complexity of her craft only deepens, acknowledging both in word and in sound the true beauty that comes from emotional turbulence.
Her debut album, Good at Falling, is available March 1st of 2019.
