Beats Antique are all over the board when it comes to music. Their eccentric, dramatic and consistently unique sound has recreated tracks from artists like Bassnectar and ACDC. Furthermore, I think they're the only artist who could successfully execute a sweet banjo cover of "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk.
Their live shows are overflowing with energy, featuring a mix of electronic samples, live drums and dance performances. Consistent with their penchant for variety, their music is a beautiful amalgam of daring and varied styles.
It seems appropriate, then, that they have no issue remixing Terry Hall & Mushtaq, two experimental artists with a similar flair for musical diversity. “The Hour Of Two Lights” appeared on an album of the same name in 2003, and included almost 20 multi-cultural collaborators such as a blind Algerian rapper and Damon Albarn of Gorillaz.
While it sounds very ambitious, this remix is delightfully well balanced. It pushes the listener just outside their auditory comfort zone. The track has a circus-tango feel and some familiar elements like a relaxed piano and glitchy percussion, keeping you content but curious at the same time.
Keep up with Beats Antique's impressive musical resume here.
