This week's Sunday Night Chill is all about the laid-back grooves of future hip-hop and R&B. Relax in your favorite chair or get in your car, press play, and drive around while enjoying some smooth instrumentals and the beginning days of Spring. You'll find yourself swaying from side to side and nodding your head to the beat before you even realize that the following artists are basically all from either L.A. or Michigan.
We start off with lone foreigner, young Parisian producer
Stwo (pronounced "Stew") and his appropriately-titled ambient soundscape "Quiet Life." The L.A.-based collective Soulection is represented on this list with a Sango-produced beat for the Grand Rapids-based collective AGO. Newcomer
Joey Pecoraro puts a different part of Michigan on the map with some mellow ghoulish tracks in "Moving Away" and "Band in the Box," off his latest EP,
The Strange and Impossible.
And no playlist is complete without the lush sounds of
Kelela's voice. On "The High," her reposed delivery is coupled with a creeping haunting beat produced by the mysterious Gifted & Blessed. The playlist closes out by another L.A. native, Zuper, and his take on another Grand Rapids producer, Atu.
Hope you enjoy these (mostly) West Coast vibes!
