I love staying up at night. My brain effortlessly pulls down its shades and lights up from the inside. It's the opposite of soaking in a melancholy reality, though just as profound and beautiful. But I wonder: what it's like when there is no departure of the moon, no noise to suddenly make peace desirable? I was inspired by the following tracks, and astronaut Chris Hadfield's cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity," to consider the journey of traveling into space from lift-off to touchdown to departure. I don't know if I can truly imagine it, but looking up at stars bursting in the foreground, while ambient chill flows in the back, always serves as a humbling experience. Image credit: Rich Murray
