Last night STRFKR, Poolside, and Chrome Sparks played a sweltering show in Greenpoint at the House of Vans.
Let me preface by saying that last night was my first experience at a House of Vans event. That said, I think it was one of my favorite summer experiences. All the musicians, though unique, seamlessly meshed together to put on an incredible live show.
Unfortunately, I missed Chrome Sparks, which I'd been looking forward to catching live, but I did see Poolside and STRFKR, and both exceeded all expectations that I ever could have had for a free show act.
This song is older, off STRFKR's Jupiter back in 2009, but timeless. Not only because it's a cover, but because the band gives it such a light and summery feel that immediately puts you in the mood for a good weekend BBQ with beer and sun. Their rendition is similar enough to the classic, giving listeners a sense of excitement and nostalgia, but the vocals and heavy bass line juxtaposed with tropical instrumentation make this a truly special cover. They're also on tour, so be sure to check 'em out if you have a chance!
