Why do we like this?

So, this relatively unknown band with a lead singer by the name of Jónsi is about to release a new album, and it's causing ripples throughout the blogosphere. Just kidding. It's friggin' Sigur Rós. These guys are legendary, right?

"Ekki Múkk" is a single from the album Valtari, available May 28th. At almost eight minutes long, it stands as a representation of the sound the band did so much to champion - melodic, slowly building ambient post-rock.

Unlike one of their last major singles "Gobbledigook," this track doesn't exactly get me excited to hear "evolved" material. Instead, it leaves me with the feeling that I'll get exactly what I expect: about an hour of background music. At least I know it will be background music.

For those of you eager, the album will be ready for pre-order on Sigur Rós's website shortly.
