Detroit's own Royce Da 5'9 has just dropped "Eat What You Killed," featuring Killer Mike of Run The Jewels. A gripping hard-hitter with a dynamic flow and sparse beat, it's an exciting new collaboration from the pair -- one we've been hanging out for since they first joined forces on "Underground Kings," released in December last year.
The track has a raw feel, with the bare instrumentation leaving no room to hide. Royce has such a unique flow -- equally aggressive and eloquent, he tends to spit just ahead of the beat, adding so much urgency to his ruthless verses. Killer Mike is one of my all-time favorites, and his equally uncompromising guest lines are the steel-coated icing on the tough-as-nails cake.
Both artists are masterful collaborators in their own right. Royce has teamed up with Eminem, Slaughterhouse, DJ Premier and more for both features and full collaborative releases, while Mike first came to attention featuring on OutKast's Stankonia, and has since gone on to form Run The Jewels with El-P, alongside collabs with MNDR, Kendrick Lamar and Glasses Malone - and that's in 2015 alone. The chemistry between the two could not be clearer, so let's hope there's more to come in the future.
