The Gold Coast is one of Australia's most infamous coastal areas. It's a densely populated tourist destination, well known for its theme parks, Miami-esque beaches and a dark underbelly of rising crime, murder, and a runaway drug trade. There must be glitter in the water, however, because out of such an artificial area has come some of some really, really good music.
RINSE is the project of Gold Coast musician Joe Agius who just turned 21. If you told me Joe was the grandson of Morrissey. I'd be absolutely and utterly convinced.
I find it astonishing that this track is only a demo. The production, the layering, the vocals, the lyrics -- everything about "Point" has me feeling things. It sounds like it's been lifted straight out a 1980s anthology of classic alternative rock, but it's from a boy who lives down the road. RINSE is top of my "ones to watch" for 2013.
