I've featured Cape Town-based PHFAT a number of times in the past. Over the years, they've built a brand based around highly-technical-but-heavy-hip-hop-meets-electronic sounds (yeah, that's a lot of hyphens).
"The Whip" is no exception to that style, coming hot off the plates from the get-go. That's nice and all, but I'd reckon that the turnaround at the 2:10 mark is the main reason this song gets the nod in my book.
All credit to Mikhaela Faye for the fantastic vocals. Okay, that's unfair: Mike is brilliant as well, and I have no doubt he played a heavy hand in this "interlude" of sorts. Either way, it's fantastic.
