If you've been following Packwood's progression this year via our pages, you'll remember he's putting out music a little differently. The Melbourne musician is putting out a seasonal EP every three months, with the four "seasons" part of a larger piece of work entitled Vertumnus. Having already given us the autumn (Autumnal) and winter (Hibernal), we turn our attention attention to spring, and it's first single "We Drink Light."
Musically, this track embodies its season extremely well. Immediately there is that feel of waking out of a slumber, with little flourishes of flute and percussion setting the scene nicely. From there, the track opens up into a stream of choral-inspired vocals, strings, and horn. The gorgeous arrangement is no surprise if you have followed Packwood's work to date, and I'm looking forward to hearing the full year of seasons completed over the coming months.
"We Drink Light" premieres here today, while the full Vernal EP is due out on September 1 (the first day of spring in the Southern hemisphere). You can catch up to date if you're behind by listening to more Packwood here.
