Ready to get weird? Like really weird? Like grinning with contentment as you slouch on a couch in your underwear at 3:00am eating Flamin' Hot Cheetos while Adult Swim blares from the TV weird?
Good, because there's a new duo from Gothenburg, Sweden called Oy who channel that kind of whacked-out, electronically stimulated sensory overload into music so creative it's almost unsettling.
Stimming is their new EP and "So So" is the wonderfully discombobulating leadoff track, featuring the whirling glitchiness of a Paul brother cut and shades of The Strokes with its slightly buried lo-fi vocals. These elements come together with some sharp industrial drums to spiral into reckless oblivion quite nicely -- it's a flailing joyride all the way through.
The EP is brought to you by the Terrible Records offshoot Flexible Records, who explain that Oy are "a neurotic coping mechanism." Let the record show that I am for such a classification.
