Recently, a remix of Onra's aptly titled "The Anthem" hit the top of the
Hype Machine charts, making it one of the most popular blogged tracks. As I consider myself to be something of an Onra fan, I felt duty bound to check it out. It's an alright remix, certainly not offensive, but I can categorically say that it is
not an improvement on the original.
This got me thinking, and eventually I reached a conclusion which surprised me. It seems that a lot of people probably hadn't heard the original, and thus were enjoying the remix for the elements it maintained. To me, this is a travesty.
Seriously, you need to hear this guy! As well as the original version of "The Anthem," he has produced some wonderfully chilled tracks, such as "Relax In Mui Ne," which I'm featuring today. The track comes from the acclaimed
Chinoiseries album, which Onra made from samples taken on a trip to Vietnam -- the land of his grandparents.
If you haven't heard this album yet, I urge you to stop whatever you're doing and get it right now. Seriously. It's that good.
