Why do we like this?
Connaisseur Recordings is a label out of Frankfurt with many artists you've honestly probably never heard of. One such group is Of Norway, a (surprise) Norwegian duo from what I can gather. There is little to no information out there on this obscure group that I was able to find, besides a prior techno-house two-track EP called Karpathian Thirst.
Luckily Connaisseur Recordings' SoundCloud page just uploaded an awesome single by Of Norway entitled "For Ava," for which my music library is seriously enhanced.
The track is just about five and a half minutes in length, during which the iambic message "I know you're there / makes my heart sing" ululates over and over, sometimes without gain, sometimes reverbed, but always despondently tugging at your heart strings. The guitar that makes its way in for the second half is a perfect yin to the first half's yang. This song is so nakedly beautiful that it's as if the world stops while it plays.
Though Of Norway seems to be a young group, "For Ava" shows a great deal depth and perspective. For more on Connaisseur Recordings check out their official site here.
