Why do we like this?

A few years ago, I went to school for audio engineering, and one of the things they stressed was how bad digital distortion can be. With years to follow, curating avant-garde music like this, I've come to learn that digital distortion can be used artistically.

Nick Anthony shows this to be true on his newest tune, "Output." The sharp, crunchy bass on this release stole my attention, and the upbeat melodies kept me engaged.
