Kygo’s debut album, Cloud Nine, was originally due for release on February 12. Excited fans anticipated its arrival – only it never happened.
“I’ve been working on this album for a year and a half,” Kygo said in a statement published on Billboard. “I don’t want to rush anything now in the end and I want it to be perfect when I release it!”
It looks like Kygo might have at last found perfection, because yesterday he announced via Facebook that the album is now due for release on May 13 via Sony Music. The image lists other dates as well, leaving fans guessing. New singles? Show dates? Some clued-in readers noted that Kygo’s tour dates overlap two of the three dates listed, and YourEDM came to the conclusion that the dates are likely to be single releases.
Today, on 18 March, the first single from the album went live. "Fragile", a new collaboration from Kygo and Labyrinth, was premiered by Zane Lowe as his latest World Record on Apple Music here.
There’s very little information available about the upcoming 15-track album, but here's a seven-minute preview giving tasters of eight or nine different tracks.
Kygo is leading the way not only as a music producer, but also as an artist making history. In December of last year he was the first electronic dance music DJ to perform at a Nobel Peace Prize Concert. In an interview with AXS, Olav Njøstad, the director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, said “Kygo is a Norwegian world sensation that we are looking forward to seeing at Telenor Arena in December. Considering the hit catalogue he already has produced, I'm happy that the Nobel Peace Prize Concerts new format allows each artist time for additional songs.”
