Rock legends Iggy Pop and Josh Homme know how to keep a secret.

The two artists are just about to release their collaborative album, Post Pop Depression, which was recorded in secret last year. Just this morning, a fan-made video has appeared online showing the two artists performing Pop's 1977 classic “Lust for Life” at a secret gig in Los Angeles’ Teregram Ballroom last night.

The new album features guitarist/keyboardist Dean Fertita, and Matt Helders, the drummer from Arctic Monkeys. In an interview with NME.com Homme elaborated that the collaboration is in some ways a sequel to Pop’s 1977 collaborative album with David Bowie, Lust for Life. “Where those records pointed, it stopped,” he said. “But without copying it – that direction actually goes for miles. And when you keep going for miles, you can’t see these two records any more.”

Pop and Homme have announced a short tour to coincide with the album’s official release on March 18. They’ll play at London’s Albert Hall on May 13, and Homme is quoted on NME.com as saying that they’ve chosen to perform only in “small, beautiful theaters where their presence might still seem disruptive.” Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar) and Matt Sweeney (bass) will be joining Fertiat, Helders, Pop and Homme for the 20-date tour.

You can stream Post Pop Depression in full via NPR Music.
