Canada's avante-guarde, synth-pop darling Grimes has been announced to play at the Philadelphia Wizard World Comic Convention on Friday June 3.
Though comic cons are often host to celebrities, especially those associated with superhero movies, Wizard World is billing Grimes as the first-ever musical headliner at a comic convention. Grimes will be the inaugural act of a concert series set to follow the convention throughout its U.S. circuit. As of yet, the only other headliner announced is Melanie Martinez for the Columbus, Ohio leg of the Wizard World circuit.
Grimes is currently on tour for her 2015 album Art Angels, opening several shows in May for Florence and The Machine, and getting ready to play Coachella, Saturday April 16 and 23.
While talking with RollingStone, Grimes hinted at new material that might include B-Sides from Art Angels. "I’m not committing to anything, but I have a bunch of B-sides I kind of want to finish." She later clarified that there was no new material on the immediate horizon, though she did say that new material would be "more chill vibes, downtempo, synth-y shit." Indication that the Indie diva hasn't lost her want for experimentation.
