So, I’m a bit torn writing this review now that I’ve done a pinch of research.
I stumbled on Ireland’s Moscow Metro a few weeks ago and immediately found myself intrigued by their noise. They create a much rougher sound than I normally prefer, but I couldn’t tear myself away from their single “Late Night Radio.” I found myself listening to one song, then another, and another, until I had devoured all of their releases. “Spirit of the City” is one of my favorite, and I was so excited to share not just this track, but multiple songs! What a find!
But my joy was short lived. On December 8, the band announced on their Facebook page that they are on permanent hiatus and Sean Corcoran (vocals/ bass/guitars/keys), Barry McNulty (vocals/guitar), Dylan Casey (drums/percussion), and Alan Holmes (vocals/keys) have parted ways to pursue new projects. Do I review a band that doesn’t have plans for new materials in the near future? Do I let you fall in love with a sound that won’t grow?
Yes, Shufflers. Good music is good music, and none of us really knows what the future holds. I really find comfort in Moscow Metro’s fantastic noise. It’s dark and downcast, in the most wonderful way possible. I want so much more. Let’s keep a close eye on these musicians.
