Mikal Cronin, mostly known for his fuzz guitar work in various Ty Segall bands, is now currently breaking out into Indie Rock's collective consciousness. His first self-titled album was a delicately crafted album from the opening notes. It really popped out of nowhere for me.
In that regard, I saw this album coming from a mile away. After it was released last week or so, I was still impressively surprised at how great of a songwriter Cronin is. This whole album reminds me sometimes of The Byrds and then other times sounds like a stripped down Nirvana tune. All these influences coalesce into some of the best Pop Rock I've heard in a while. He even manages to throw in some noise guitar while you're not paying and it all makes perfect sense. Check this album out now!
