Quick history lesson: Genghis Khan was the founder and ruler of the Mongol empire, infamous for conducting brutal raids and massacres throughout Asia in conquest of resources. So naturally, Miike Snow wrote a song likening their desire for sexual exclusivity to him. Talk about undateable...
Leave it to an artist by the name of LoveJoy to take a track about irrational jealousy and turn it into something fun and dance-worthy. Spencer Clayton is the mastermind behind this blissful future bass project, with remixes ranging from Daughter to Hermitude and Jauz.
The sharp synths and drum beat during the drop remind me of Flume's rework of "Tennis Court" by Lorde. It's bouncy and peppered with hi-hats. LoveJoy keeps things effectively simple on this one, allowing the natural structure of the song to lead the progression. He chops up the vocals and cleverly pieces them together to keep things interesting.
