I wrapped words around this song many moons ago, but technical difficulties got the better of us. It looks like the Internet gods have finally let me share another sparkling gem from my absolute favorite indie electro-pop duo.
To date, my most beloved song by Skyler Kilborn and Logan Grimé has been “Day Dreams,” a sassy, kiss-off cradled by romantic, soft sounds. There is nothing not to love about that track, but it is the lone horn that rattles my heartstrings.
That same somber softness and slow burn is applied to “Talk About It.” And possibly the best part? The horn is back! It’s a thoughtful connection to their past work within these new shares.
“‘Talk About It’ was an experiment in using heavier sounds like the drums, guitar, and synths, against the smaller, more minimal verses,” Kilborn shared with us. “The song is a little darker and was written during some hard times. The most I can hope is that anyone else going through a similar pain might find joy in relating to it.”
This track is a soothing complement to Midi’s recent “Tidal Wave.” Where one is explosive, the other simmers. Both should be heard together.
If these recent releases are an accurate preview of what the future holds for MM, color me every shade of excited.
