Why do we like this?
After a breakout set during the peak of the summer's heat at July's Pitchfork festival, Savages returned to Chicago this week to play the Metro to those still able to stand following the end-of-summer music festival gauntlet: Lollapalooza, North Coast, Hideout Block Party, and last weekend's Riot Fest. The enthusiasts who made it out to this Monday night set were treated to a high-scale production in an intimate setting.
With just one proper release, Silence Yourself, and a couple years in existence, the London-based quartet finds themselves on the fast track thanks to frontwoman Jehnny Beth and guitarist Gemma Thompson. Their methodological intensity in delivering the better part of their discography in a single blow demonstrated a well of potential. Their live show, much as Eric described their album, lives up their post-punk aesthetic and ideology.
If Savages was a band you may have overlooked, they're definitely worth lending a second listen to.
